A fire at the MAPS Air Museum late Monday destroyed Vietnam war artifacts.
Green Communication Manager Valerie Wolford said the blaze was contained to the MASH exhibit and two exterior windows of the museum. MAPS Air Museum is an internationally known aviation museum located at 2260 International Pkwy.

The Akron-Canton Airport Air Traffic Control Tower initially reported the fire, and the Airport’s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Team was the first to arrive on scene. “CAK’s fire team was first on the scene and had the fire under control by the time our crews arrived,” said Fire Chief Jeff Funai. “As the primary responders for any fire or medical emergency at Akron-Canton Airport, our partnership and joint training with CAK’s fire team are essential to minimizing damage to this cherished museum.” The museum has more than 50 aircraft on display, but museum officials told 19 News none of them were damaged in the fire.
