The fire started just before midnight Friday and displaced 14 families
Three other injured firefighers have been released from the hospital, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda. The fire captain suffered face and back injuries and is reportedly in stable condition, Miranda said.
The blaze started in an unoccupied building on Seymour Avenue and extended to two occupied buildings, Miranda said Saturday. Fourteen families, including 19 adults and 11 children, were displaced by the blaze, Miranda said. The four firefighters were injured by a partial collapse at the rear of one of the occupied buildings, Miranda said. Three of them were released from University Hospital by 2:45 p.m. Saturday, he said.
