'I think that the football society as a whole needs to take their responsibility and try to protect our fans, the football fans. I think it’s the only right decision,' says Finland's captain on postponing Euro 2020 to protect fans from coronavirus

STOCKHOLM - Finland’s soccer players were looking forward to competing at the finals of a major tournament for the first time ever in June, but captain Tim Sparv said it was right to postpone the Euro 2020 Championship to protect fans from the coronavirus.

“I think that the football society as a whole needs to take their responsibility and try to protect our fans, the football fans. I think it’s the only right decision,” he told Reuters by telephone. With games and team training suspended in Denmark, Sparv has been trying to keep fit and focused as the world struggles to bring the COVID-19 virus under control.
