The romantic fantasy series A Court of Thorns and Roses, by Sarah J. Maas, predominantly tells the story of Feyre, the human turned High Fae, but the best character in the book series is her sister, Nesta. Nesta is a divisive character, and for good reason. She spends most of the story undermining Feyre and refusing to accept her life at court. However, the best character in a narrative is rarely the one that is completely good all the time.
I never felt that Feyre was as flawed as Nesta, which made her less compelling. Getting A Court of Silver Flames from Nesta's perspective opened my eyes to what a fantastic character she's always been. A Court of Silver Flames' third-person perspective made it hard to connect with Nesta, but this doesn't change the fact that she's evolved into someone almost unrecognizable from the first book.
The next A Court of Thorns and Roses books must undo Elain's biggest injustice in the series, which is how underdeveloped she is as a character. Though both Nesta and Feyre care deeply for Elain and would do anything to protect her, this has infantilized her and prevented her from reaching her true potential, as her sisters have. One of the parts of Nesta that I connected with from the beginning is the fact that she loves Elain so much.
