File photo by Dan Gleiter | [email protected] Broad Street Market in Harrisburg started 2024 with a bleak financial picture, but it’s ending the year on a positive note.
The 2025 budget includes no rent increase for vendors and allocates about $100,000 in state funding for renovations and improvements in the market’s Stone Building. The board said if the budget is carried forward, the market should have about a $100,000 operating fund balance for 2026, just in time for the projected reopening of the market’s Brick Building. The building was heavily damaged by fire in July 2023.Board chair Eric Hagarty said the market’s refreshed board in partnership with vendors, utility providers, supplies and community members starved off debt.
