The crash happened on the southbound frontage road of I-35 in front of the car dealerships in South Austin . This stretch of road can be tricky to navigate anytime with drivers getting on and off the interstate and in and out of businesses and side streets.
In July of 2023, this was where Arthur Lee Wright was allegedly speeding when he slammed into the back of an Uber with five people inside. Only one person in the ride share survived.Among those killed were Miranda Rendon, her boyfriend Dante David and their friend, Taylor Johnson. They were here from San Antonio to celebrate Miranda’s 26th birthday.
Initially wright's attorneys asked that their client get a 10 year sentence. Miranda's mom told us he deserves much more. Janet Zepeda said, “I hope that they give him the time that he deserves. I want to see justice for everyone To come up with 10 years was a slap in the face.". The charges he's facing include intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and collision involving death.
With the 10 year plea deal rejected, Wright's attorneys are now proposing a deal where their client will accept a 32 year sentence. Wednesday’s final hearing will determine whether Wright can reach a deal with prosecutors or he goes on trial.
