Mayor, two council spots on ballot in November
As the final days of the filling period for Encinitas candidates approach, all three city races on the ballot may well be contested.
The deadline will be extended to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 14 if an incumbent doesn’t file in a race, and that’s expected to happen with the District 2 City Council race. Councilmember Kellie Hinze, who currently represents this mostly downtown area district, announced in March that she wouldn’t seek re-election.
In the mayor’s race, the two potential candidates are: Bruce Ehlers, a council member whose seat isn’t up for election this year; and Tony Kranz, the incumbent mayor.
