UConn is a juggernaut. So many weapons. So many plays. This is the impossible task of defending Connecticut, writes CJMooreHoops. So how can the Aztecs — a team built on defense — do what no team has done yet this tournament and stifle the Huskies?
“They’re pretty good at blowing stuff up like that,” the MWC coach said. “I think what they struggle with the most is just a team that free flows. If they know where you’re trying to direct the ball, they can do a good job of taking stuff away. You’ll get them on a few things, but I think over time, they’re probably tougher. They struggle more with teams that just run motion or have guys that can just go get a bucket.
The Aztecs switch a lot of ball screens but usually do not switch off-ball screens. It’s possible they do not switch much of anything in this game. In the first half against, they switched less to try to keep a big on Kalkbrenner. Sanogo could get similar treatment. “All four spots were trying to attack too,” the MWC coach said. “They were on the attack. You gotta meet their aggressiveness back with aggression on both sides.”
“He’s a monster, man,” a Big East coach said. “Anything he catches at the rim, it’s just gonna be finished.”
