The Filipinas entered the quadrennial meet as the 46th-best team and highlighted their historic debut with a 1-0 win over tournament co-host New Zealand. It's surely a massive boost for the country which had to deal with the departure of their mentor Alen Stajcic two days after the conclusion of their World Cup stint.

The Philippines, though, is racing against time as it prepares for camp by the end of August for another maiden participation at the Asian Games this September in China, with Torcaso hoping continued success for the in-form Filipinas.
