McConnell's comments came after Vice President Kamala Harris told Wisconsin Public Radio reproductive rights are worth getting rid of the filibuster.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., is warning Democrats will get rid of the filibuster to pass abortion rights legislation should they win control of Congress and the White House on November 5.
“I think we should eliminate the filibuster for Roe and we need and get us to the point where 51 votes would be what we need to actually put back in law protections for reproductive freedom," said Harris.“...which dilutes representation. It stalls action. It's a power grab for certain senators and it is a relic of the past that is not helpful in 2024," Rep. Sydney Kamlager, D-Calif., told MSNBC on Sunday.
In 2022, Democrats tried to do away with it completely to pass voting rights legislation. The effort was stopped by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, I-Ariz. and Sen. Joe Manchin, I-W.Va. Manchin said he won’t endorse Harris now because of her filibuster stance.for Senate, firmly supports abortion rights but won’t sacrifice the filibuster to achieve it.
