Fighter jet chased private plane near Washington DC before it crashed into mountains

The US military scrambled F16 fighter jets to pursue an unresponsive light aircraft that violated airspace around Washington DC, with the supersonic chase ending with the smaller plane crashing into mountains Taz_Ali_ reports

The fighter jets caused a loud sonic boom that roared across the capital and was felt in the neighbouring states of Virginia and Maryland.

After the plane failed to respond to challenges from air traffic controllers, fighter jets were deployed and fired flares in an attempt to draw the attention of the pilot, according to the North American Aerospace Defence Command .
