Fifth Ward celebrates 10th annual Lyons Avenue Renaissance Festival on Saturday

on Saturday. Just don't expect any jousting tournaments or medieval getups — instead, visitors can watch a helicopter drop 50,000 plastic, treat-filled Easter eggs to gaggles of screaming children. The Urban Helicopter Drop is just one of many events and activities available during the free festival along Fifth Ward's main thoroughfare. R&B and soul singer Leela James headlines a lineup of gospel, blues and other musicians spread across four stages.
The festival also includes a children's area with bouncy houses, music and entertainment for kids of all ages, a community parade and a car show. Over 100 vendors and food trucks will be on hand to sell artisanal goods and delectable southern cooking. The festival, hosted by the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation and the Fifth Ward Cultural Arts District, takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday between the 3800 and 4000 blocks of Lyons Avenue.
