Making the creations in school is a fond memory for many San Antonio-raised adults who now help their kids make them.
Creating shoebox floats during Fiesta is very much a family project. It’s something that many San Antonio -raised adults remember making as children and one that most labor over as parents. “This project is more a parent’s task,” said Leslie Ann Garza-Wright , the mother of two young boys, Ezekiel and Ezra , who worked on their Fiesta shoebox floats Wednesday night.

Students used to create the floats in the classroom, she said, but with STAAR testing taking place in mid-April work on the projects has moved to students’ homes. “It’s become a family project,” Diaz said.
