The situation has caused the evacuation of four homes in the village, which were within the zone of concern as firefighters from Midale and possibly Estevan worked to extinguish the blaze that was still going at roughly 3:20 p.m, according to Chief Administrative Officer for the Village of Macoun Carmen Dodd-Vicary.

However, Dodd-Vicary said earlier reports that the entire village needed to be evacuated were false. She noted that the village is in communication with emergency responders and will endeavour to keep area residents informed if pertinent new information becomes available.Article content She said the village has been active on its social media channels and emergency alerts can be sent out through the SaskAlert system, if need be.

Dodd-Vicary estimated that around a dozen train cars were involved, noting that in addition to fire crews, personnel from CP Rail, Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and the RCMP were also on scene.“We’re actually pretty lucky that the wind is blowing away from our communities. So, at this time, it’s not a concern.”At around 2 p.m., the Transportation Safety Board of Canada reported it was deploying a team of investigators to the scene of the derailment.
