Fewer people hit the Jersey Shore Sunday, and beachgoers say that’s OK

NEW!Sunday was a good beach day. Not perfect, but with some clouds overhead, the air didn’t feel like a blow dryer and beachgoers were spared the direct sun that can make them feel like they’re being barbecued on the sand.Some Jersey Shore beaches had what might be considered less-than-usual crowds for a Labor Day weekend Sunday.

Island Beach State Park, a destination that local officials feared would clog their roads with traffic, still had available parking at 12 p.m., even with fee free access. Even an employee who answered the phone said it was unusual for a Labor Day weekend. The park closes when all parking is filled. Summer business has been “okay” said Ming Chu, owner of Mr. Wish in Pier Village, which sells bubble tea, smoothies and other refreshments.
