Sen. John Fetterman praises Trump's political acumen, saying Americans voted for him to 'protect and project' their version of the American way of life. He avoids labeling Trump a fascist, noting that such a term is not widely used by regular people. Fetterman believes Trump's response to his assassination attempt demonstrates his political talent.
Sen. John Fetterman , D-Pa., said in an interview released Sunday that Americans voted for President-elect Donald Trump because he is going to “protect and project” their version of the “American way of life.” “I think people are gonna decide who is the candidate that’s gonna protect and project my version of the American way of life, and that’s what happened,” the Pennsylvania senator told ABC News correspondent Jonathan Karl. Sen.
Fetterman said he never believed it was wise to call Trump a fascist, a label that Karl noted Vice President Kamala Harris used for her opponent on the campaign trail. “It’s like, that’s her prerogative, I mean. But, it’s not a word that I would use, because you put a lot of Democrats, especially in my state, that I know – and I happen to love people that are gonna vote for Trump, and they are not fascists,” Sen. Fetterman explained. “And also, fascism – that’s not a word that regular people, you know, use.” Sen. Fetterman added that anyone rooting against a president is rooting against a nation. The lawmaker told Karl he hopes the president-elect will be “good” and successful. “I’m not ever gonna be where I want a president to fail,” he said. “So, country first. I know that’s become, like, a cliché, but it happens to be truth.” Trump is undeniably a “singular political talent,” according to Sen. Fetterman, who noted the 45th president had “energy and almost a sense of fearlessness to just say all those kinds of thing.” “And, people – it’s undeniable that it has a entertaining aspect for that too,” the lawmaker claimed. Trump’s reaction to his assassination attempt in Pennsylvania this summer exemplifies his political talent, Sen. Fetterman added. “After you survived an assassination – you literally were shot in your head – and had the presence of mind to respond, you know, ‘fight, fight, fight.’ I mean, that’s a political talent. It’s undeniable,' he said
