Senator John Fetterman suggests he might support President Trump's proposal for the US to take control of Gaza and resettle displaced Palestinians. Trump outlined the plan during a press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasizing economic development and security. Fetterman acknowledges the plan's provocative nature but points to the devastation in Gaza following the Israel-Hamas war and the need for solutions.

WASHINGTON, DC - DECEMBER 12: U.S. Sen. John Fetterman speaks to reporters before a Senate luncheon at the U.S. Capitol on December 12, 2023 in Washington, D.C.

Trump in a Tuesday news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu floated the idea, with displaced Palestinian people being resettled elsewhere under the proposal. The plan, Trump said, would involve reshaping the area to allow for prosperity following the Israel-Hamas war. “It’s a provocative part of the conversation, but it’s part of the conversation, and that’s where we are,” Sen. Fetterman said. “The Palestinians have refused, or they’ve been unwilling to deliver a government that provided security and economic development for themselves.”

The senator last week was also the only Democrat to back a bill to sanction the International Criminal Court for issuing arrest warrants for Israeli officials in relation to the Jewish state’s war with Hamas.
