Senator John Fetterman condemned the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis, calling for the operation to 'immediately end.'

FILE - Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., speaks ahead of Democratic vice presidential candidate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz during a campaign event in York, Pa, Oct. 2, 2024. Senator John Fetterman condemned the actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis, calling for the operation to "immediately end" in a statement released Monday.

"It has become an ungovernable and dangerous urban theatre for civilians and law enforcement that is incompatible with the American spirit," Fetterman said in the statement."I reject the calls to defund or abolish ICE. I strongly disagree with many strategies and practices ICE deployed in Minneapolis, and believe that must change," Fetterman explained. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said Senate Democrats will refuse to vote for the bill, unless the DHS funding is removed from it, and the Senate instead votes on the appropiations for the other five agencies.Schumer said he'd like the DHS appropriations to be discussed separately, calling them "woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE." Fetterman said he believes it's unlikely the DHS funding will be split from the minibus, and Democrats refusing to vote for the bill could lead to a partial government shutdown. I've also spent significant time hearing many different positions on the funding bills and maintain that I will never vote to shut our government down, especially our Defense Department. Fetterman also said voting against the bill wouldn't defund ICE, referencing funding the DHS received from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. The Senate would need to pass the appropriations bill by Friday, Jan. 30 to meet the funding deadline and avoid any shutdowns.Officials in northern Pennsylvania are warning drivers to avoid Coxton Road after reports of "significant snowslides."Crews brave cold to fight Mifflin County house fire The fire was first reported around 9:40 a.m. Monday at a home on West 4th Street, according to emergency dispatch.PHOTOS | PennDOT road conditions in Central PA
