A celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander cultures is slated for Saturday at the Oceanside Civic Center.

More than 20 Asian and Pacific Islander cultures will be represented during the community event. Highlights include performances on two stages and a martial arts demonstration featuring Bi “killer bee” Nguyen, aka Killerbeemma, who will give a self-defense seminar. Nguyen, a mixed martial arts fighter, who has been with the One Championship martial arts company, is a cast member of CBS’ ”Survivor” Season 37.

The festival is hosted by Vista-based nonprofit Umeke Inc., which aims to preserve Hawaiian culture and fosters cross-cultural learning in communities, while working toward equity and advancement of underserved populations. The idea of the festival is to encourage conversations about cultural similarities, differences and foster mutual respect.
