Charles Leclerc says he is not fooled by Red Bull and Mercedes' current pace in Bahrain testing, as he knows they have more up their sleeve. | Wheels24
The Ferrari driver and his teammate, Carlos Sainz, have again been competitive in Bahrain, following a similarly encouraging showing in Barcelona a week earlier, and have frequently outpaced their biggest rivals.
Lewis Hamilton even suggested that Ferrari would look good for a one-two if the Bahrain GP had taken place this past weekend instead of the next. But Leclerc is urging caution, as he feels current lap times will not mean much when the year's opening race comes around. Leclerc told reporters in Bahrain:"Consistency is there, I think the consistency is good, balance is good, which are two positive things. But this means absolutely nothing on the performance, and yes, we are seeing not bad lap times for now, but lap times that don't mean anything.
"I'm sure that Mercedes and Red Bull have so much more to come and are just hiding their game a lot for now. So, it doesn't mean much, the timing page, but on the other hand, we are focusing on ourselves, and for now, it is a good test. We haven't had any particular issues."
