United were beaten 2-0 by Spurs in the Premier League on Saturday and while there were some positives, it was a far from encouraging performance
There was not much for Manchester United to celebrate as the Reds suffered a humbling 2-0 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.
Coming after an unconvincing victory over Wolves, United would have hoped to deliver a more coherent display against Spurs. Erik ten Hag’s side began well but faded after the interval as Pape Matar Sarr opened the scoring for the hosts and United's early belief ebbed away. A Lisandro Martinez own goal late on sealed the points for the home side.
Ten Hag will have to pick his players up after a less-than-ideal start to the season and quickly rediscover the confidence that saw the team end last season strongly. He saved well when called upon but stood no real chance of stopping the goals.
Alejandro Garnacho started on the left and was positive in the first half while it remains to be seen whether Ten Hag sticks with Marcus Rashford as a central option or moves him back out wide. There seems places up for grabs and Sancho in particular could profit.The England left-back was heavily at fault for Tottenham’s opening goal. He allowed Dejan Kulusevski too much time and space as he set the wheels in motion for Pape Matar Sarr’s goal.
It came off the back of a quiet performance against Wolves and United will need him to rediscover his best form if they are to get anywhere near the levels they are capable of.
