FEMA is reminding residents affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton that the deadline to apply for individual assistance is approaching quickly.
FEMA is reminding people affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton that they have less than two weeks to apply for individual assistance. In an update Friday, the disaster relief agency noted that the application deadline is set for January 7, 2024. Applications for assistance can be found online or text “DRC” along with a Zip Code to 43362. FEMA officials have also spread out across 16 counties in Florida to offer in-person assistance with applications.
They set up shop at the agency’s Disaster Recovery Centers. Some of the available financial assistance can go to help people affected by the hurricane cover their rent. Rental assistance is offered that can include a security deposit that is near the individual’s job, home, school, or place of worship. In its update, FEMA also detailed the cleanup effort. Officials say nearly 38 million cubic yards of debris has been removed. To put that in perspective, FEMA pointed out that is almost a quarter-million tractor-trailer loads. So far, FEMA has committed more than $1 billion to recovery efforts in Florida to Milton relief, noting that reaching that milestone in just over two months had never been done previously
