A 'senior' corrections officer was suspended and a FedEx employee fired for their alleged roles in the creation of a video mocking George Floyd's death.
FRANKLIN TWP., N.J. — A New Jersey corrections officer has been suspended and a FedEx employee was fired for their alleged roles in the creation ofFedEx said it does"not tolerate the kind of appalling and offensive behavior depicted in this video."New Jersey Department of Corrections posted to its Facebook page Tuesday that an"individual has been suspended from their post and banned from NJDOC facilities pending a thorough and expedited investigation.
According to public pension records, an officer named Joseph DiMarco was enrolled in the Police and Fireman's Retirement System on the same dates and is listed to have worked at the Wagner Youth Correctional Facility.The post indicated one of its officers"participated in the filming of a hateful and disappointing video that mocked the killing of George Floyd."
"Under absolutely no circumstance do we condone nor will we ever tolerate expressions of discrimination, harassment, and hatred based on race, faith, skin color, national origin, nationality, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or disability," the union statement continued.Late Tuesday, FedEx called behavior depicted in the video — which it confirmed involved an employee —"appalling and offensive.
"A diverse and inclusive workforce is at the heart of our business, and we stand with those who support justice and equality."
