A federal judge has issued a temporary injunction against President Trump's directive to freeze federal grants, protecting funding for existing programs until at least Monday. The ruling came in response to a lawsuit filed by a coalition of non-profit, healthcare, and small business advocacy groups who argued the freeze order was unlawful and would harm grant recipients.

A federal judge has temporarily blocked President Donald Trump 's order to freeze federal grants , preventing the directive from taking effect Tuesday evening. US District Judge Loren L. AliKhan's decision will safeguard funding for existing programs until Monday afternoon. The directive, which sparked widespread anxiety among federal employees upon its announcement earlier Tuesday, would have significantly impacted funding for agencies such as FEMA and the Small Business Administration.

The temporary reprieve was achieved by a coalition of non-profit, healthcare, and small business advocacy groups who filed a lawsuit against the federal Office of Management and Budget to halt the freeze. The lawsuit, spearheaded by the National Council of Nonprofits, the American Public Health Association, the Main Street Alliance, and the non-profit SAGE, asserted that the freeze order lacked any legal foundation and would inflict harm on hundreds of thousands of grant recipients who rely on federal funding. This legal action represents one of two major lawsuits filed Tuesday to challenge the threatened funding freeze. The other is being pursued by the state attorneys general of New York, California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island. Both cases aim to secure a permanent injunction against the freeze. This is a developing story. Please check back for updates
