A federal judge ruled against former President Trump's executive order targeting a law firm involved in a defamation lawsuit against Fox News.
A federal judge on Friday struck down another of President Donald Trump ’s executive order s targeting law firm s. This order aimed to punish law firm s for their legal work in the voting machine company’s defamation lawsuit against Fox News over false claims surrounding the 2020 presidential election, a suit that eventually ended in a massive settlement. The judge’s decision follows a pattern of similar rulings against Trump ’s attempts to target law firm s.
Other judges in recent weeks have blocked similar orders against the firms of Jenner Block, Perkins Coie, and WilmerHale. These orders sought to impose sanctions including the suspension of security clearances for attorneys and the restriction of access to federal buildings. 'The order was one in a series attacking firms that had taken positions with which President Trump disagreed. In the ensuing months, every court to have considered a challenge to one of these orders has found grave constitutional violations and permanently enjoined enforcement of the order in full,' wrote Judge AliKhan. 'Today, this court follows suit, concluding that the order targeting Susman violates the U.S. Constitution and must be permanently enjoined.' These executive orders seemed to be part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to exert pressure on legal professionals who represented opposing viewpoints.
