Investors await the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision and more earnings
Here are some of the noteworthy economic releases and events that investors are eyeing today and later this week: TODAY: ADP employment report for October at 8:15 a.m. ISM manufacturing index for October at 10 a.m. JOLTS jobs openings for September, also at 10 a.m. ⭐ Federal Reserve interest-rate decision at 2 p.m. ET. ⭐ THURSDAY: Weekly jobless claims at 8:30 a.m. FRIDAY: ⭐ Nonfarm payrolls for October at 8:30 a.m.
⭐ Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal forecast 175,000 jobs were added, versus a surprisingly strong 336,000 in September. ALREADY OUT THIS WEEK: The Case-Shiller index showed home prices rose in August to a record high, fueled by a shortage of properties for sale. Wage and benefit costs rose 1.1% in July through September versus the prior three months, according to the Labor Department. Consumer confidence fell in October for the third month in a row.
