Day in and day out, this Newton Elementary 2nd grade teacher is on a mission to instill a message of love, self-worth and belonging in her students.NEWTON, Ala. - News4 and All In Credit Union continue to highlight educators making a difference in their schools.
Dawn Snell, who is a second-grade teacher at Newton Elementary School, is our February Teacher of the Month.“I love them and I want them to do their best. I do want them to have a sense of worth in this classroom and belonging because not all kids have that,” Snell said.“She loves her kids. She is passionate about what she does, the quality of relationships that she builds with her students, she does not leave not one student behind.
Snell didn’t always know she wanted to be a teacher, but she said her dad who was an educator, inspired her.She’s never looked back. Snell takes the curriculum in her class a step further, teaching two rules her class follows that she hopes will stay with them all their lives. “Be kind and work hard. I want them to learn that. I want them to learn to treat others with respect and courtesy. I want them to learn that hard work pays off. So, those are our two main rules and we try to together as a unit in here and support each other.”“We all have to learn things to get better we have to practice to get better,” Snell said. “So, of course the rewarding part is when your students are improving and they are proud of themselves because they see that improvement.
