7NEWS: Serious concerns for four Australians who failed to make it to Indonesian surf resort

has been launched to find four Australian surfing tourists and three others missing since Sunday when their charter boat failed to arrive at their Indonesian accommodation.

They are understood to be among a dozen Australians who were travelling on two boats from Nias Island off western Sumatra towards the Pinang Island surf resort when they ran into bad weather.Watch the latest news and stream for free onIt is reported one ship took refuge on an island while the other vessel, now missing, continued on towards their destination where they were booked to stay.

Local authorities said the search had been hampered by ongoing bad weather and because the missing vessel did not have a tracking device. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it is providing consular assistance to the families of the four Australians onboard.“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those missing during this distressing time,” a spokesperson said.
