We talked with Kiana about how 'Fear Street' subverts tropes, centers a queer heroine of color, and features one particularly gruesome death scene.

No, funny enough. I feel like I was a fan of horror, but then I met the cast and especially Olivia Scott Welch and Fred Hechinger, I was like, “Oh no, you guys are super fans.” So when I went back to watch them for research for my role, I felt like I could actually take part in the conversations and kind of consider myself a slasher fan, but still I know I have a long way to go.trilogy.

. I think I've seen the movie about four or five times now, and every time I just am so shocked and appalled that Leigh Janiak, our director, she just really leaned into showing everything in that scene, the camera does not cut away. It shows everything that happens to Kate. And especially because we love Kate as a character, and we really think that all these characters will survive to the end, to see something so gruesome happen to one of our favorite characters, I was just like, wow.
