The White House made headlines earlier this week when cocaine was found in the West Wing over the July 4 holiday weekend.

The discovery raised questions about security when the White House was unable to determine where the cocaine came from, or who it belonged to. Adding to the furor were rampant inquiries about whether the narcotic might belong to Hunter Biden, the president's son, who has a history of substance abuse and has spent increasingly large amounts of time with and around his father in recent months. However, this was not the first time the drug was reportedly used in the presidential residence.

Ross McIntire, the White House physician at the time, administered the drug to the ailing president on multiple occasions, even on December 7, 1941 — the date of the Pearl Harbor attack. Historian Steve Gillon stumbled upon this discovery while researching for his 2011 book Pearl Harbor: FDR Leads the Nation Into War.
