It appears the colorful Pride intersection in Delray Beach has been repainted black overnight for a second time this week.
While Florida Highway Patrol and Florida Department of Transportation crews we spoke with early Wednesday morning tell us they aren’t authorized to give details, they say they had been there since 11pm Tuesday.
In that time, it does appear FDOT came back in and repainted the intersection black yet again. It appears the colorful Pride intersection in Delray Beach has been repainted black overnight for a second time this week. After a tense two-hour-long meeting Tuesday evening, Delray Beach city leaders decided how they will move forward with the paint job at the intersection on Northeast 1st Street and Northeast 2nd Avenue, which they didn’t ask for. The city says it happened less than half a day after receiving notice from the state to remove it, and now it has happened again. The city responded during an emergency meeting on Tuesday, saying its poor paint job is the real hazard. Now, Delray Beach leaders say they're joining Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale in a formal petition against FDOT. They say the agency skipped key steps in the legal process. Also at Tuesday’s emergency meeting, city leaders said they were working to get a temporary suspension to maintain the crosswalk until due process plays out. They said they were hoping FDOT wouldn’t come back in before then. But as it appears on Wednesday morning, FDOT already took matters into its hands once again.
