The Food and Drug Administration is proposing to ban the use of brominated vegetable oil - an additive found in some sodas.

The FDA says that it has concluded that brominated vegetable oil is no longer considered safe after animal studies showed that it was toxic to the thyroid gland.California banned BVO last month becoming the first state in the U.S. to do so.The FDA will be taking public comments on the proposed ban through Jan. 17.As a result, many beverage companies began to reformulate their products to replace BVO.
