While no illnesses have been reported yet, the FDA emphasizes that Listeria can be especially dangerous for vulnerable populations, including young children, the elderly, and pregnant women. Customers with the recalled broccoli are urged to discard it.
The FDA has increased the risk level for recalled broccoli sold at Walmart in 20 states, stating that it may cause "serious" or "fatal" illness.12-ounce Marketside Broccoli Florets, and is no longer available to purchase in stores, Braga Fresh and the FDA encourage customers who still have the broccoli stored in their freezers not to eat it and throw it out.
The recalled broccoli has a UPC code of 6 81131 32884 5 on the back of the bag while the front of the bag has the expiration date and Lot Code: BFFG327A6.The manufacturer says there have been no illnesses reported in connection with this recalled item, so far. However, “Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” according to the FDA.
