The FBI is struggling to analyze Sam Bankman-Fried's laptop because it has so much data on it, prosecutors say
Prosecutors have run into a roadblock while trying to analyze reams of data in their criminal case against Sam Bankman-Fried.
It takes weeks to extract just Slack messages from the laptop, Roos said, and longer still for the rest of the data on the device. Because of its size, he said, the device needs to be taken apart"virtually" and extracted in pieces for prosecutors to analyze. The FBI, who had a representative in attendance during the hearing, did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment ahead of publication.
In the latest 13-count indictment, prosecutors added a count for conspiracy to violate the anti-bribery provisions of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, alleging that Bankman-Fried had engaged in the scheme to try to free up trading accounts of his other company, Alameda Research, that had been frozen in China. On Thursday, Cohen said in court he would challenge the government's right to bring additional charges after Bankman-Fried had already been extradited to the US.
