An investigation by the DOJ has uncovered a Russian bot farm that used AI to create fake social media profiles to post support for Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine.
The United States Department of Justice has seized two domains linked to Russia's wartime disinformation campaign that was used to spread misinformation and fake news on social media.FBI officials said the AI-powered information operation out of Russia included nearly 1,000 accounts on X pretending to be Americans.
'As malign actors accelerate their criminal misuse of AI, the Justice Department will respond, and we will prioritize disruptive actions with our international partners and the private sector. We will not hesitate to shut down bot farms, seize illegally obtained internet domains, and take the fight to our adversaries.''Today's actions represent a first in disrupting a Russian-sponsored, Generative AI-enhanced social media bot farm,' said FBI Director Christopher Wray.
