It appears a decision has been made on the long-awaited move for the new Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) headquarters.
A site at the Greenbelt Metro Station has been selected as the new home of the FBI headquarters, a source close to the situation told 7News. The possible site is currently a parking lot for the Metro station.The General Services Administration was searching for a location that not only met their, but they made it clear they wanted a site that had access to transportation. For that, Greenbelt appears to check that box.
However, the Maryland delegation pushed their efforts to persuade the federal government and argued that their 61-acre proposed site sits right next to the Greenbelt Metro Station and about 40% of FBI employees already live in the state. The current headquarters in Washington has long concerned Congress, as the building has deteriorated. The GSA has projected relocation costs at more than $200 million.
