The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has confirmed the closure of its Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) by December 2024. The decision was met with mixed reactions, with Republicans praising the move and Democrats expressing concern. The agency declined to provide specific reasons for the closure but it follows accusations from GOP lawmakers that the FBI prioritized DEI over traditional law enforcement qualifications.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation last month shuttered its office dedicated to diversity, equity and inclusion , the agency confirmed to The National News Desk on Thursday.

The agency did not provide comment explaining what led to the decision. The closure of the office was first reported by Fox News. Rep. Jordan in the letter pointed to a report penned by a group of retired FBI officials, which described the agency selecting special agents based on whether they "satisfy the FBI's priority to meet mandates."

Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., earlier this month also raised concerns over the leadership of FBI Director Christopher Wray. She claimed the agency had "prioritized" DEI over "protecting the American people" with Wray at the helm.
