'Unfortunately, this simple, life-saving practice has become part of the political debate.' In Senate hearing, Sen. Lamar Alexander and health officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, stress importance of face masks in preventing the spread of COVID-19.
College and university presidents share their plans for the fall 2020 semester.Anthony Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, told a Senate panel on Tuesday that he wouldn't be surprised if the number of new COVID-19 cases surpass 100,000 per day and warned that surges in some areas are putting the entire country at risk.
"We are now having 40-plus thousand new cases a day. I would not be surprised if we go up to 100K a day if this does not turn around so I’m very concerned … I think it’s important to tell you and the American public that I’m very concerned because it could get very bad." Fauci and the other top U.S. health officials warned in a joint statement that the U.S. health care system faces a"tremendous burden" this fall with the onset of the flu season and COVID-19 still circulating within communities.
"We don’t know,” Paul said."Why weigh in with these opinions that we have no knowledge of these are forecasts that may well be wrong. No one knows the answers to these questions. We shouldn't presume that a group of experts somehow knows what's best for everyone.”Fauci noted that his recommendations were based on what was known at the time.
