The father of a former NFL player who shot six people before killing himself two years ago is suing the South Carolina alma mater where his son played college football.
The autopsy showed Adams suffered from a particularly severe form of the degenerative brain disease known as CTE. CTE has been linked to violent mood swings and memory loss.
The lawsuit alleged the university showed “negligence” in educating Phillip Adams on head trauma and failing to provide appropriate protections for players.Adams was drafted in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers and bounced around the league playing for New England Patriots, Oakland Raider, Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons before leaving the league in 2015.
Adam shot six people at a house in Rock Hill, South Carolina on April 7, 2021. He died the next day after a standoff with police. If you purchase a product or register for an account through one of the links on our site, we may receive compensation.
