The bodies of a father and his young son have been recovered after a boating accident while fishing on the Bogochiel River near Forks.

The bodies of a father and his young son have been recovered after a boating accident while fishing on the Bogochiel River near Forks. The two were fishing with two others on October 30 when their boat overturned and all four ended up in the water.

One man survived, but another man is still missing. Emergency crews have been searching the water for about a week now but have been forced to suspend search efforts due to heavy rain and low visibility. Axel Graham has been searching the Bogochiel River for any signs of his brother, Alfonso Graham, 39, for days. “He’s just an amazing guy, he’s worth more effort than has been put into this search,” Axel Graham said. “There’s been no found body, no confirmation of mortality or anything like that, he’s just someone who’s worth it in every sense of the word.” “It’s hard to explain, but I can sense he’s still alive,” he added. “I feel very strongly that he’s here.” Alfonso was on a fishing trip with his other brother, Andrew Graham, his friend, Christian Akers, 35, and Akers’ 6-year-old son Wyatt, when their boat got pinned against a tree and capsized. Authorities say no one was wearing a life jacket at the time, but Andrew was able to quickly cling to a tree and call 911. “The boat started to tip, and the water started filling up the boat really quickly,” Axel Graham said. “ just did the first thing he thought of which was to grab on the tree branch. He said the entire boat, everything was just out of sight before he realized it, it was just carried downstream very quickly.” Authorities later recovered the bodies of Akers and his son. Their dog, Turbo, was found alive by a resident in the area. “Every time you saw them, they were smiling,” Nicole Berry, a family friend of the Akers, said. “They were looking at each other, having fun, had matching haircuts, all the cool things that you would wish for a father and son.” “ came to school with lots of stories of fishing and being on the water with his dad, and he was really proud of him in that,” Berry added. As Graham’s family continues their search, there’s been an outpouring of community support for both the Grahams and the Akers, as Akers’ wife and his surviving son try to move forward from this tragedy. “Most of the donations are from our community, which I think speaks volumes for how we live our lives here on the peninsula,” Berry said. “We don't stand alone. We gather together here. We all feel their pain, and we're all going to rally and be there for them and support them in any way that we're capable of.” “I know that we have a really strong community and everyone is doing everything that they can,” Berry added. “We're devastated with one person still missing, so that's hard.”Authorities have suspended the search for Alfonso Graham, but his family continues to search for him and is urging anyone who can help to join them.
