A father and grandfather have tragically died on the Gold Coast after rescuing a drowning child from a hotel pool.

A family holiday has turned into a nightmare after a father and grandfather lost their lives in a brave attempt to rescue a drowning child from a rooftop pool at a Gold Coast hotel. The two men, aged 38 and 65, have been identified as the father and grandfather of the toddler who fell into a rooftop pool at the Top of the Mark Holiday Apartments in Surfers Paradise.
It is understood the two-year-old child accidentally slipped into the pool about 6.45pm on Easter Sunday.Heroically, the father and grandfather then dived into the pool and both the child and mother were able to return to safety but, tragically, the men died in the act.
