Five federal buildings, incvluding a facility in downtown Columbus were published Tuesday on a list of building up that could be sold
The General Services Administration's “non-core property list" initially included 443 properties across the United States. It was then thinned down to approximately 320 hours after it was published and then completely removed as of Wednesday.
"We are identifying buildings and facilities that are not core to government operations, or non-core properties for disposal, the GSA's description of the list states. "Selling ensures that taxpayer dollars are no longer spent on vacant or underutilized federal spaces. Disposing of these assets helps eliminate costly maintenance and allows us to reinvest in high-quality work environments that support agency missions.
Initallt on the list was the 229,733-square-foot John W. Bricker Federal Building located at 200 N. High St., which houses offices for the Department of Agriculture , Department of Housing and Urban Development, Internal Revenue Service, Social Security Administration, and the U.S. Post Office.that the agency is reviewing the list, adding "compelling offers and do what's best for the needs of the federal government and taxpayer.
"Since publishing the initial list on March 4, 2025, we have received an overwhelming amount of interest," a GSA. "We anticipate the list will be republished in the near future after we evaluate this initial input and determine how we can make it easier for stakeholders to understand the nuances of the assets listed. As we stated in our press release, “GSA will continuously review and update the list of non-core assets.
