A woman died late Saturday night when a truck slammed into a pole in San Jose — a crash that further extends the city’s modern record tally for traffic fatalities in a single year.

The woman was killed when the truck slammed into a pole at about 11:45 p.m. near the intersection of Story and Senter roads, according to the San Jose Police Department. Three people were taken to local hospitals, police said. It was not immediately clear whether the woman who died had been taken to a hospital before succumbing to her injuries.

The driver of the truck was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, police said. He was not injured in the wreck.
