The annual award aims to support up-and-coming designers and finalists this year were chosen by a panel of judges that included Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg, Chioma Nnadi, Eva Chen, Paloma Elsesser, and Joseph Altuzarra. Each finalist also met with the judges, welcoming them to their studios so they could experience their designs first hand.
Known best for his colorful, sparkling evening wear with unique shapes and silhouettes, he said in his acceptance speech, "I am so grateful to my parents for giving up so much that allowed me to be here, to my team who, through all the full-time jobs and all the leaving early, allow us to make this collection, and thank you to the judges for seeing something in me."
His prize was awarded at Cipriani South Street in New York City, along with prizes for two runner ups,
