The Federal Trade Commission ( FTC ) is distributing nearly $2.4 million in refunds to Fashion Nova customers who may have been affected by the retailer's alleged deceptive review practices. The FTC accused Fashion Nova of suppressing negative customer reviews with ratings below four stars out of five. This practice, according to the FTC , is the first of its kind involving the concealment of negative customer feedback.
Fashion Nova, a fast fashion retailer known for its trendy and affordable clothing, was founded in 2006 and quickly expanded its reach through online platforms and social media marketing. The FTC's January 28th announcement stated that Fashion Nova agreed to a settlement prohibiting future suppression of customer reviews, except for those containing obscene, sexually explicit, racist, or unlawful content, as well as reviews unrelated to products or customer service. The retailer was also required to pay restitution to affected consumers. The FTC is sending checks and PayPal payments to 148,351 Fashion Nova customers who filed valid claims. Consumers will receive their payments based on the method they selected during the claim process. The FTC emphasized that consumers should cash their checks within 90 days or redeem their PayPal payments within 30 days.
