The mayoral candidates wants The City to prioritize 311 calls near schools

Former mayor Mark Farrell wants The City to promptly respond to 311 calls for unsafe behavior near San Francisco schools, arguing they should be a sanctuary and safe environment in which to learn.

The Examiner analyzed the frequency of such complaints to assess their scale and compared it to how The City currently responds to such issues. Out of the 39,138 total encampment calls over the past year, 11,105 were within 1,000 feet of SFUSD schools, or about 28%. Put another way, such reports made up about one out of every 3.5 calls regarding encampments. One school, Tenderloin Community Elementary, saw 1,709 encampments reported nearby, accounting for about 15% of all encampment reports within 1,000 feet of an SFUSD school.

Six lessons from Silicon Valley’s 75-year-old whiz kid Ask Dennis Hancock what it’s like to work in youth-dominated Silicon Valley, and he will quote Will Rogers “Most of these complaints are smaller issues that can be and are managed quickly,” Jeff Cretan, a spokesperson for the mayor, said. “HSOC is out every day proactively addressing larger encampments and continuing to respond to concerns around encampments.”
