Daniel Farke has a track record with wantaway players at Norwich City and delivered title-winning form from them after they failed to find moves away
Rodeos like Leeds United’s current situation are not a first for Daniel Farke. The former Norwich City boss is well aware of what happens behind the scenes when a club is relegated from the top flight.
In September 2020, as the Canaries were preparing for life in the second tier after relegation, Emi Buendia and Todd Cantwell, two of Farke’s best players, were being linked with transfers away. A newly-promoted Leeds were, ironically, among those being linked to the pair. That year, Buendia would be absent from the opening two league matches of the season through injury and suspension, while Cantwell actually started those games.
Neither player saw their bridges burned as publicly as Gnonto’s, but fans were well aware that the pair were wanting out of Carrow Road. However, Farke kept them, the rest of the dressing room and the support onside enough for a dominant campaign to play out.
