The frantic search for the missing Titanic tourist sub has ramped up this morning with more ships joining the rescue effort, as oxygen supplies dwindle. US Correspondent apiotrowski9 is following the developments. 9News MORE:

This photo provided by OceanGate Expeditions shows a submersible vessel named Titan used to visit the wreckage site of the Titanic. In a race against the clock on the high seas, an expanding international armada of ships and airplanes searched Tuesday, June 20, 2023, for the submersible that vanished in the North Atlantic while taking five people down to the wreck of the Titanic.

One expert told CNN pinpointing the source of the noise was like trying to locate a particular drum in a packed and raucous stadium. "Picture a massive stadium that has a roof on it, and you have an aircraft flying over top and it drops sensors down to listen to the sound inside that stadium," he said.

Key to the search are camera-equipped remote-operated robots, which are designed to scan the seafloor in real-time at depths other vessels can't reach. Two were operating in the area Wednesday and more were on the way, officials said.Other equipment on the way included specialised salvage system equipment capable of hoisting "large, bulky and heavy undersea objects such as aircraft or small vessels," the US Navy said in a statement.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution director Carl Hartsfield said ocean noises were "complex" and would need to be analysed closely by experts. "There are a lot of vessels in the area and they each make noise, right, so all of that has to be eliminated and its analysis over time."Rolling StoneOceanGate CEO Stockton Rush emerges from the hatch atop the OceanGate submarine Cyclops 1 in the San Juan Islands, Wash., on Sept. 12, 2018.
