A search is underway for a missing University of Rochester professor whom police believe may be in danger.
Heikki Rantakari, 44, an associate professor at the University of Rochester who was reportedly last seen Friday, Oct. 20, 2023. whom police believe may be in danger.
Rantakari's family tells us he was last seen between roughly 9 and 11 p.m. Friday. Police say he checked into his Airbnb on Exchange Street that night, and after not showing up to class the next day, his colleagues became concerned. "We did find evidence that he was there, so we do know he did check into his Airbnb on Friday," said Captain Greg Bello with the Rochester Police Department. "Now, it's a matter of what happened from there, and that's what we're trying to track down."
Police say they've been told by Rantakari's colleagues that the 44-year-old would typically never blow off classes or assignments like this.
