Results from Belfast Live's poll on a change to the footballing calendar make interesting reading

The NI Football League's new five-year strategy document could lead to the introduction of summer football here.

The results were quite interesting with the majority of those who took part in the poll seemingly in favour of a change to the calendar. For Question 2 36% of fans said the loss of the Boxing Day fixtures would be the main negative of any calendar switch. Whilst this is only a snapshot of the Irish League fanbase it is interesting that two-thirds of those who took the poll were in favour of the change and felt it would have a positive impact on the league and clubs.

He said: "It will mean massive change, and we are working with the Irish FA on this because the Irish Cup would also have to change. It is now time to sit down and discuss that plan. "We know that clubs and fans are very passionate around Boxing Day games, so something like starting in May and running to February would be a possible starting blueprint.
